Colleen has completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education from Ryerson University and a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Ontario Institute of Technology. She is a certified teacher in Ontario and has thus been hired by the Toronto District School Board as an Occasional Teacher. Based on her 7 practicum experiences through her degrees, Colleen has had experience working with children ages 2 to 10 years old. Colleen has also had a number of experiences working with and creating lesson plans for students with special needs and exceptionalities. She has volunteered and worked with children at the Tower program at Wexford Heights United Church, the Youth Bowling of Canada (YBC) league at Parkway Mall, supervising and mentoring high school students during the Trills and Thrills Festival at Agincourt Collegiate Institute, and worked for Mad Science of Toronto where she taught science concepts to children in Kindergarten to Grade 6. Colleen has received the certifications for Mental Health First Aid for adults working with youth through the Mental Health Commission of Canada, Hi-5 that supports children and youth’s personal and social development through physical activity, TRIBES, Restorative Practice, and basic American Sign Language. In addition, Colleen has completed the following additional qualifications in teaching: Special Education Part 1 Primary/Junior, English Second Language Part 1 Primary/Junior, Mathematics Part 1 Primary/Junion, Reading Part 1 Primary/Junior and is currently completing Vocal Part 1 Primary/Junior. Colleen is looking forward to bringing her hands-on and social teaching approach, knowledge and skill set to the Wexford Heights United Church Sunday School program.
